 Harry Potter Crochet

This kit has proven to be extra special to me and my family this year. My Dad went to visit at my brother's house for Thanksgiving, where for the first time in four years, all of his children and grandchildren were in one place. We were so blessed to all be together for the holiday. He came back home with me and my family, and visited with us for a few days as well. I was telling him about the kit, and even though the instruction booklet was very easy to understand, I unfortunately have not been blessed with the gift of sewing or crocheting. Luckily, my Step Mom is. My Dad took this kit home with him, so that my Step Mom could make my sons Harry Potter and Dobby for Christmas! I will be updating this post when they receive them for Christmas!

 Harry Potter Crochet

I think this product is extraordinary. There is much love that went into to making it, and you can see it through the quality of the materials, as well as the guidance on how to make the dolls. I would recommend this to any Harry Potter fan! It is something that can be treasured for years to come.

Overcomer Movie

Overcomer

Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255:  “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”):  I did receive a sample from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment through Propeller Consulting, LLC /FlyBy Promotions of the product in exchange for this review and post.

 Overcomer

Are you looking for the #1 Inspirational Family Film of 2019, and a movie with a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes? Look no further, because you have found it! Overcomer is available on digital right now, and will be available on Blu-Ray and DVD on December 17, 2019, just in time for gifting! The DVD is packed with tons of features and extras that the family will love! The movie runs approximately 119 minutes, and is rated PG for thematic elements.

 Overcomer

Overcomer is a movie directed by Alex Kendrick, and is a Kendrick Brothers Productions movie. Some of their other inspirational and wonderful movies include War Room and Courageous. The cast of the movie include Priscilla Shirer, Shari Rigby, Cameron Arnett, and Aryn Wright-Thompson.

 Overcomer

This movie could not have been more timely for me. In the movie, a basketball coach loses his team because of a plant shutdown in his hometown. The plant shutdown effects so many people in the town, and he ends up coaching a one person team for a sport he has never coached before. He meets an unexpected friend, and this friendship brings about many learning lessons for the coach, his athlete, his friend, his family, and his boss. The lessons are about identity, forgiveness, faith, love, prayer, and perspective.

I really enjoyed how real and heartfelt this movie was. Each of the characters is easy to relate to, especially the coach. He gets down on his luck, which makes him almost forget all the many blessings that are around him. This movie does an excellent job of reminding us where our faith is, and Who we serve. There are exceptional learning points throughout this film, and I would highly recommend watching it if you havent' already!

 Overcomer

This 6 Movie Gift Set will be available at Walmart on December 17th. The set includes the movies: Overcomer, War Room, Courageous, Fireproof, Facing the Giants, and FlyWheel.

My Epic Life Word Book (Review and Giveaway)

My Epic Life Word Book: 1000 Words to Live By
Sponsored Post: I received a complimentary copy of My Epic Life Word Book: 1000 Words to Live By from Mrs. Wordsmith, in exchange for a honest review.

Can you believe it is almost that yummy time of year, where we gather with friends and family and give thanks? This year has seemed to go by so fast. It seemed to go from sunny and hot days, right into these darker and colder days where I live. I believe Autumn arrived here for maybe a week, but we have been in cold! (Well, cold for the South that is!) This time of year, always seems to have me and my family inside more. This causes us to have fun movie nights and snuggling, but we also enjoy reading and drinking a hot cup of tea or cocoa.

My Epic Life Word Book

My Epic Life Word Book: 1000 Words to Live By from Mrs. Wordsmith, has been one of the books my boys have devoured during our reading nights. This book has amazing illustrations from the talent behind Madagascar, Hotel Transylvania, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The illustrations are fun and silly, and extremely colorful. The characters almost seem to want to leap right out of the book. My sons and I really enjoyed how these fun characters, also brought the words with them to life.

My Epic Life Word Book

The book contains learning words to describe ourselves, time, numbers, shapes, sizes technology, everyday life and outdoor adventures just to name a few. It also includes an index at the back of the book, as well as a section called Word cartoons. If you have a QR scanner on your phone, there are QR codes in this section that bring you to a link to open a fun, short cartoon describing that word. Each word contains a short, easy to remember definition and an illustration to show that word.

My Epic Life Word Book

The age recommendation for the book is 4 to 8 years old, but this book masterfully has included words that some bigger kids may already know, and helps them utilize that into their vocabulary. My sons (who are 8 and 10 years old) love to draw and write illustrated cards, similar to the size of a baseball card. They draw their favorite characters, or create their own, and then on the back they describe that character's stats. They include things such as what that character likes to eat, how fast can they run, are they a villain or hero, etc. My Epic Life Word Book: 1000 Words to Live By has helped my sons add some colorful and "epic" vocabulary to their cards statistics. I have even noticed how they are using some of the words in the book in their everyday speech as well.

My Epic Life Word Book

Mrs. Wordsmith is a team of artists, writers, game designers, data scientists, teachers and researchers. This book is a 2019 National Parenting Product Awards Winner, and is also a 2019 Tillywig Award Winner. My Epic Life Word Book: 1000 Words to Live By has over a 1,000 words that include high frequency or curriculum words, social-economic words, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) words. My sons and I very much enjoyed adding this to our collection at home, and although this was our first product from Mrs. Wordsmith, it will definitely not be our last. I highly suggest seeing some of the other epic and awesome products this wonderful company offers.

Dangerous Prayers (Book Review)

 Dangerous Prayers
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of Dangerous Prayers from BookLook Bloggers, in exchange for a honest review.

 Dangerous Prayers

Dangerous Prayers - 50 Powerful Prayers That Changed the World is compiled by Susan Hill and the portrait illustrations are by Francesca Resta. Additional illustrations are by Isabella Grott and Julianne St. Clair, and it is published by Thomas Nelson.

 Dangerous Prayers

Dangerous Prayers is a beautiful book that shares 50 prayers and information about Christians throughout history. It shares their birth year and death year (if applicable), two pages for what they were known for, and a personal prayer from that person. The people range from historical figures, cultural icons, political leaders, to saints and martyrs. Some of the people are Billy Graham, Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Corrie ten Boom, George Washington Carver, Helen Keller, and C.S. Lewis just to name a few.

 Dangerous Prayers

The illustrations and portraits in this book are gorgeous. I like that there is a brief introduction to who these historical figures were and how they changed history. There are inspiring quotes, as well as their prayers to help encourage each of us in our faith.

 Dangerous Prayers

Many of these people, I did not know were Christians. It would be an excellent resource book if you have a child or student who is looking for information on historical figures or a start for a biography. My sons and I enjoyed reading this together, learning about a different person each night before bed.

I think this book can be enjoyed by everyone. It is a beautiful glimpse into different parts of history, and how the brave prayers of these amazing people can inspire each of us today.

Blessings,

Kelly

Have I Ever Told You? and Miss Pinkeltink's Purse (Book Reviews)

Tilbury House Publishers
Disclosure: I was provided complimentary copies of these two amazing books, through the publisher, Tilbury House Publishers, in exchange for a honest review.

Tilbury House Publishers

Are you ready for Valentine's Day? I know many of us, especially parents and grandparents make a mad dash to the stores every middle of February to let our children and grandchildren know how much we love them. I think we let them know that everyday, but February does have that fun feeling of love. Ever since I was a little girl, my Dad has asked me every year to be his Valentine. When I got married, my husband joined that list, and now I have two sons who ask me. I have many Valentines to buy for! I thought instead of the chocolates, toys, or flowers, why not gift them books this year? I have been blessed to review the two following books that I think would make amazing Valentine gifts!

Tilbury House Publishers

Have I Ever Told You? is by Shani M. King, and illustrated by Anna Horv├íth. It is recommended for ages 5 to 6 years old, but I think this is a book everyone would enjoy. The author wrote this book as a note to his children, to not only remind them how much they are loved, but to empower them that they can be anything they want to be. The illustrations do a beautiful job of showing many different cultures and races, and this book even addresses bullying. It is a wonderful book to read to a child, whether they are your child, grandchild, or student. It teaches children that they are loved and that they can make a difference in this world.

Tilbury House Publishers

At the end of each page, the question, "Have I ever told you?" is asked. It reminds children of what it means to do the right thing. It addresses things such as manners, respect, values, and integrity in a way that children can understand and appreciate. My sons who are 7 and 9 years old, thought this book was really special.

Tilbury House Publishers

This book really hit our heart strings, and then we read the next book, and my sons and I were just really overcome with emotion and love for everyone. Miss Pinkeltink's Purse by Patty Brozo and illustrated by Ana Ochoa is a humorous and at points, sad story about a lady who is homeless in a town. She is kind and tries her best to find all kinds of items in her purse, to help the people in the town fix what they need. Her purse is so large and full of items, that it also gets in the way sometimes. The important part of the book, is that she gave from her heart. She gave so much, that eventually her large purse was empty. This is when a child in the town steps in, and gets the community involved to help her. I won't give away the ending, but my sons and I were in tears of joy after finishing this book.

Tilbury House Publishers

The illustrations in this book are colorful, creative, and vibrant just like in Have I Ever Told You? I love how both of these authors addressed difficult things such as bullying and homelessness, in a way that was gentle enough for a child. Miss Pinkeltink's Purse even includes ideas and ways to help homeless people in our own communities. These two books would be an outstanding gift to your home, school, or church library and are stories that can be enjoyed over and over again.

The Southern Living Party Cookbook

 The Souther Living Party Cookbook
Disclosure: I received a copy of this product from the publisher (Oxmoor House, a division of Meredith Corporation), in exchange for a honest review. There are affiliate links, and I will be compensated if you click on a link and make a purchase. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Southern Living Party Cookbook

If someone would have told this Jersey girl, that she would be living in the South one day, I think I would have laughed. Fast forward many years, and here I am. I absolutely love where I live though. I have made amazing friends here, my boys go to a wonderful school, we found a terrific church, and my husband and I have found jobs working for a company that appreciates our hard work. I get all four seasons, but nothing too extreme. I see beautiful scenery and there truly is no hospitality more elegant and graceful, than here in the South. I was excited when I heard of the release of the The Southern Living Party Cookbook by: Elizabeth Heiskell, because I can't wait to join my friends in planning gatherings.

The Southern Living Party Cookbook

The inspiration behind this cookbook, comes from the original 1972 Southern Living Party Cookbook. The author, Elizabeth Heiskell comes from generations starting with her great-grandmother, of knowing the importance of being a hostess and entertaining family and friends. Elizabeth is now the go-to caterer in Oxford Mississippi for many events, is a TODAY show food contributor, and has appeared on many shows inlcuding Chopped. She sells homegrown gourmet items under the name Debutante Farmer, and is also a wife and mom.

The Southern Living Party Cookbook

The cookbook is full of ideas and recipes on how to plan events such as wedding showers, baby showers, picnics, fish fry's, holiday dinners, and even just simple get together's with friends. It also includes table etiquette, invitations, notes, and so many more wonderful incentives. There is expert advice given through the introductions of each section, and even through the recipes to have each event be flawless. The advice given by the author is easygoing and comfortable, and she advises each hostess, "The more relaxed you are, the more fun your guests will have." The majority of the recipes include gorgeous and colorful pictures, which I love because I am visual. If I can see what something is supposed to look like, I can usually do a good job of making it or putting it together.

The Southern Living Party Cookbook

The recipes include delicious appetizers, salads, main dishes, drinks, and desserts. These can range from dainty dishes for showers or mimosas for a girls day out, to full meals. My husband and sons were very impressed with the Cowboy Steaks and Lowcountry Shrimp Boil. I feel there is a recipe in here to not only appease every appetite, but will have that guest at the party going for at least a second serving! I would highly recommend this cookbook to anyone, and I am excited to start making some amazing dishes for my family and friends. Thanks for reading my review, y'all!

30 Days to Understanding the Bible

Thomas Nelson Bibles
If you are anything like me, learning the Bible as an adult has had its challenges. My parents instilled in me the best they had to give, and that was the belief in God and in prayer. We didn't go to church often when I was a child, and I really had no idea what Sunday School was, or what VBS stood for. (Vacation Bible School) I was baptized as a baby. It would be 25 years, with the birth of my oldest son, that I became baptized as an adult. Learning the Bible is important to me, and I was so excited to hear about 30 Days to Understanding the Bible by: Max Anders.

The edition of this book is actually celebrating 30 years since the book has been written! This new edition has been expanded and updated for today's readers, and also contains fan-favorite bonus content, previously removed.  In just 15 minutes a day, for a month you can grasp a better understanding of the Bible. This includes learning about the Bible's key people, events, and doctrines. It has been recommended by Bible teachers and pastors for the last thirty years. The book also has a 13-week plan that can be used in small groups or group discussions.

The author uses an easy to follow format, and encourages you with What you can learn tomorrow is built on what you learn today! Each of the chapters is built on this concept, and it makes the learning a straightforward and joyful progression. He relates the Bible to historical periods to make the time periods easier to understand, makes the geography uncomplicated, and the math used to remember the Old and New Testaments books amazed me.

I originally thought I would be going through this book with my husband. My husband, unlike me, grew up in the church. He has definitely learned some things in this book though, as  I summarize what I have learned. I would love to be able to go through the rest of this book, as a group discussion with some of my friends. I would highly recommend this book, as it can give you a better understanding of the Bible.

Bible Orientation: A Bible Survey Curriculum for Children Volume 1 (Review)

Bible Orientation: A Bible Survey Curriculum for Children Volume 1 (Review)
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of Bible Orientation: A Bible Survey Curriculum for Children; Volume 1: Law & History, as part of the Homeschool Review Crew, in exchange for a honest review.

Over the years, I have seen many different types of Biblical children’s curriculum. Not only do my husband and I teach our sons Biblical lessons, but we are also a part of the Kid’s Ministry at our church. The one thing we have noticed about some of the curriculum materials on the market is much of it is too easy for the children, doesn’t cover reading the Bible, and requires the students to write or really give any kind of comprehension or interactive study. They don't go into depth of the Biblical story being studied, which at Second Grade level, I think many of the children could understand. I am proud to say that these issues were resolved when we got a chance to review Bible Orientation: A Bible Survey Curriculum for Children; Volume 1: Law & History.
