Sonlight Language Arts D (Review)

Sonlight Language Arts D (Review)

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of Sonlight Language Arts D from Sonlight, through the Homeschool Review Crew, in exchange for an honest review.

Third grade can be an enormous, scary adventure to not only a child but also a parent. It seems this is the year that many new responsibilities get added to a child, including more independent learning. It is a bittersweet moment for me as a Mama, seeing my oldest start third grade this year, but knowing it is ultimately making my son a stronger and more independent learner, I know it is for the best. For this reason, I knew that incorporating Sonlight Language Arts D curriculum would be good for both him and me.

Sonlight Language Arts D (Review)

Sonlight Language Arts D is designed for third grade, and for children ages 8 to 11 years old. This curriculum embraces the “natural learning” approach, compared to the traditional workbook methods used to teach Language Arts. It allows children to analyze and discover what they are learning, and at this level, does require some help from parents. The curriculum is designed to follow a 36-week schedule (5 days a week), and stresses the importance of spelling, phonics, vocabulary development, and handwriting.

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible (Review & Giveaway)

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible is written by Doris Wynbeek Rikkers and illustrated by Fernando Juarez. It has over 40 stories from the Old and New Testament, that bring the word of God to life and remind us of His Spirit that is always with us. Each story is anywhere from 4 to 10 pages long, and includes scripture, a story based on that scripture that adults and children can enjoy and understand, and gorgeous illustrations that depict the story being told.

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible

The stories include many of the familiar people in the Bible, such as Adam and Eve, Moses, Abraham, Joshua and Joseph. This is the first children's book based on the Bible, that I have seen, that introduces many less known people in the Bible such as Bezalel, Balaam, and Amasai. As I was reading this with my sons, I opened my Bible and my husband's commentary books to learn more.

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible

Each story describes how God's Spirit has been with us since Creation and all through to present day. They are stories of hope, encouragement, wisdom, knowledge, bravery, love and truth. The stories are beautifully written, and the illustrations are colorful, yet serene and peaceful. This would be a perfect bedtime storybook or an exciting way to introduce a Biblical lesson to your child, or students if you teach a Sunday School class.

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible

My family and I very much enjoyed reading these stories together. It not only taught my sons more about the Bible, but it also taught me. My 7 and 9 year old sons loved the stories of adventure and heroism, but it was a wonderful reminder that we can have none of these things with the Spirit of God in us. This children's book is very appropriately named, and my family and I give it a 5 out of 5 stars!
