Sonlight Language Arts D (Review)

Sonlight Language Arts D (Review)

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of Sonlight Language Arts D from Sonlight, through the Homeschool Review Crew, in exchange for an honest review.

Third grade can be an enormous, scary adventure to not only a child but also a parent. It seems this is the year that many new responsibilities get added to a child, including more independent learning. It is a bittersweet moment for me as a Mama, seeing my oldest start third grade this year, but knowing it is ultimately making my son a stronger and more independent learner, I know it is for the best. For this reason, I knew that incorporating Sonlight Language Arts D curriculum would be good for both him and me.

Sonlight Language Arts D (Review)

Sonlight Language Arts D is designed for third grade, and for children ages 8 to 11 years old. This curriculum embraces the “natural learning” approach, compared to the traditional workbook methods used to teach Language Arts. It allows children to analyze and discover what they are learning, and at this level, does require some help from parents. The curriculum is designed to follow a 36-week schedule (5 days a week), and stresses the importance of spelling, phonics, vocabulary development, and handwriting.

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible (Review & Giveaway)

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible is written by Doris Wynbeek Rikkers and illustrated by Fernando Juarez. It has over 40 stories from the Old and New Testament, that bring the word of God to life and remind us of His Spirit that is always with us. Each story is anywhere from 4 to 10 pages long, and includes scripture, a story based on that scripture that adults and children can enjoy and understand, and gorgeous illustrations that depict the story being told.

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible

The stories include many of the familiar people in the Bible, such as Adam and Eve, Moses, Abraham, Joshua and Joseph. This is the first children's book based on the Bible, that I have seen, that introduces many less known people in the Bible such as Bezalel, Balaam, and Amasai. As I was reading this with my sons, I opened my Bible and my husband's commentary books to learn more.

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible

Each story describes how God's Spirit has been with us since Creation and all through to present day. They are stories of hope, encouragement, wisdom, knowledge, bravery, love and truth. The stories are beautifully written, and the illustrations are colorful, yet serene and peaceful. This would be a perfect bedtime storybook or an exciting way to introduce a Biblical lesson to your child, or students if you teach a Sunday School class.

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible

My family and I very much enjoyed reading these stories together. It not only taught my sons more about the Bible, but it also taught me. My 7 and 9 year old sons loved the stories of adventure and heroism, but it was a wonderful reminder that we can have none of these things with the Spirit of God in us. This children's book is very appropriately named, and my family and I give it a 5 out of 5 stars!

The Spirit of God Illustrated Bible

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls Books 1-3 (Book Review)

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls Books 1-3 from Worthy Publishing Group, through the Homeschool Review Crew, in exchange for an honest review.
History has always been a favorite subject for both me and my husband. It is wonderful to see that it is quickly becoming a favorite subject to both of our sons now. They especially love learning about what happened in the Bible, and how these true stories of the Bible are a part of history. We were all excited to learn more about The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls books from Worthy Publishing for these reasons.

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls Books 1-3 (Book Review)
The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls is a three-book series so far. It is recommended for children ages six to nine years old and is perfect for emerging readers. Each book is about twelve to thirteen chapters, and anywhere from 110 pages to 120 pages long. The font is easily readable and spaced perfectly, to introduce children to chapter books. It also has a few illustrations throughout the chapters. At the end of each book, are references in the Bible where children can learn more about in the Bible, from what they read in the story.

The Star (Review)

 The Star
Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255:  “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”):  I did receive a sample from Sony Pictures through Propeller Consulting, LLC /FlyBy Promotions of the product in exchange for this review and post.

THE STAR is now available for the first time on Digital on February 6, 2018 and on Blu-ray + DVD + Digital February 20, 2018 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. It is an adorable story that teaches about faith and friendship. There are six sing along songs, one dance along, "How-To" craft videos and more that are included. Some of the songs are by Mariah Carey, Fifth Harmony, and Kelsea Ballerini. The fun loving characters are also voiced by some big names, such as Oprah Winfrey, Tracy Morgan, and Tyler Perry.

The Star

The story is about a donkey named Bo, a sheep named Ruth, a dove named Dave, three funny camels, and many other cute and amazing friends who all meet on an adventure started by Bo. The characters display bravery, love, and friendship as they follow the star and become heroes by the end of the film. I loved these qualities about the film. I believe it is important to teach children that sometimes we must battle and endure things, but it is always best to do so with love and being brave.

Along with being Golden Globe nominated for Best Original Song by Mariah Carey and Marc Shaiman, it got two thumbs up by two people very important to me; my sons! It is a great family movie to watch together, and it is rated PG. The run length of the film is approximately 86 minutes. There is also a live guided Bible Study with DeVon Franklin on Facebook.

Bonus Materials Include:
  • Star-aoke: Sing-Along with Bo & Friends: In this all new song, sing along with your favorite characters including Bo, Dave, Ruth and the unforgettable camels
  • "Life Is Good" Dance-Along: Shake your tail feathers and move your hooves in this fun dance along

Lots & Lots of Animal Stories for Kids - Vol 1 Bears (Product Review)

Guest Post: Lots & Lots of Animal Stories for Kids - Vol 1 Bears (Product Review)

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of Lots & Lots of Animals DVDs from Marshall Publishing & Promotions, Inc. through the Homeschool Review Crew, in exchange for a honest review.

My sons have been fond of learning about animals for as long as I can remember, but what is interesting is now they want to learn the specifics about animals. Lots & Lots of Animal Stories for Kids DVDs from Marshall Publishing & Promotions, Inc. has done a phenomenal job of answering these specific questions, while also keeping it fun for them.

The set of five DVDs includes learning about bears, whales, birdies, froggies and donkeys. Each DVD is about 30 minutes long and introduces your child to a fun and energetic host named Miss Danni Donkey. Miss Danni Donkey has an adventure in each DVD with her fellow kid helpers, who range in age from about four years old to about ten years old. I thought this was a great idea because it gave such a broad range for children. I think preschool aged children through elementary would enjoy these DVDs.
