Charlie the Tramp (Book Review & Giveaway)

Charlie the Tramp
Disclosure:  I received a complimentary copy of this book from Propeller Consulting, LLC through FlyBy Promotions in exchange for a honest review.

Charlie the Tramp is celebrating it's 50th anniversary, in this wonderful hardback edition of this book! It was originally written in 1966 by Russell Hoban, and was the Winner of the Boys Club of America Junior Book Award, 1968. Charlie is this adorable beaver who just wants to be a "tramp." He doesn't want to do all the hard work a beaver does, he just wants to have fun and tramp around. As he goes on an adventure, he is met with an unknown dilemma and must make a decision if he wants to be a tramp, or a beaver. It is such a classically written story, and it is one I think many parents and children will enjoy reading together.

 Charlie the Tramp

My sons and I fell in love with Frances the badger from the books written by Russell Hoban, and illustrated by Lillian Hoban. We were first introduced to these phenomenal books, including our favorites: Bedtime for Frances and A Baby Sister for Frances at our local library. Charlie the Tramp was no exception. Charlie is a great character, and it was wonderful to see how supportive his family is in this story. My boys and I shared many giggles reading this amazing story, that has a fun ending with a good moral.

 Charlie the Tramp

I am so thankful that the publisher did such a fantastic job on making this 50th anniversary edition so special. Books written 50 years ago still have relevant messages, and are in fact better than many of the children's books that are available today. My family and I are excited to have a new bedtime story favorite to add to our home library. We give this book a five out of five stars, and would definitely recommend! Read below on how to win a copy for your family!

About the Author:
Charlie the Tramp

Russell Hoban (1925-2011) first became famous for his children’s
picture books about a badger named Frances and other animal
characters that have a lot in common with children we know – Bedtime
for Frances, A Baby Sister for Frances, Bread and Jam for Frances, and
Emmit Otter’s Jug-band Christmas.

About the Illustrator:
Lillian Hoban (1925-1998), one of America’s favorite children’s book
illustrators, is best known for a young chimpanzee named Arthur and
his little sister, Violet. She also illustrated six of Russell Hoban’s books
about Frances the badger, which have taken their place among the great
classics of children’s literature. Lillian Hoban was born in Philadelphia
and attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Art. She studied dance
for ten years and became a professional dancer. She began to write and
illustrate her own stories only after having children, basing her tales on
their experiences.
