The Interactive A Workbook from ABeCeDarian Company has been a fun learning tool in our homeschool studies as it is teaching my youngest son (who is five years old) how to spell, write and read. My oldest son, who is seven likes using this Interactive Workbook with my youngest because he knows the words and likes to help his brother learn. This Interactive Workbook can be used on a desktop computer, or any device with a web browser such as an e-reader tablet. It uses Word Puzzles, Spelling and Reading Chains to help teach handwriting and spelling through phonics. This is a program that would need the assistance of an adult, as this would be used with small children and beginner readers who would need help.

This is a wonderful program that keeps to the basics of phonics. There is no audio or sound, so this is you working with your child or student on how to pronounce each letter and sound. It has some cute illustrations to give the child an idea of what the word is. There are 48 lessons included, and the above picture is from Lesson 1 and the picture below is the last lesson in Interactive A Workbook. Your child can start anywhere in the lessons, which is nice so you don't need to have them go over words they may already know. Lesson 1 was a perfect place for my five year old to start. He is a beginning reader who knows his phonics, so he was able to flow through the first few lessons with some help. I think this program would be best for children ages 4-7, depending on when you first introduce reading and phonics.

Each lesson is short; only a few short screens to go through so it doesn't become overwhelming for a small child. My youngest son actually enjoyed two lessons at a time, and my oldest son loved being the teacher. He was able to help his brother, and this boosted his confidence in reading. He is going into the second grade this year, and it was wonderful for me to see him help and also know all the words without hesitation.

The Handwriting Practice worksheets were wonderful for both of my sons. I think practicing their handwriting skills is an important part of their homeschool studies. My youngest son also liked making the phonetic sounds of each letter as he practiced writing them. The Interactive A Workbook does a great job of teaching beginner phonics and writing, not only to beginner readers but also to a student who may be learning English as a second language.  It is wonderful supplemental tool to teach handwriting, spelling, and phonics. The ease of the lessons is an amazing resource that can be enjoyed both in a homeschool and classroom setting.
