Disclosure: I received a complimentary subscription from Veritas Press through Schoolhouse Review Crew in exchange for a honest review.
My sons have been studying the Bible with VeritasBible.com from Veritas Press as part of their homeschool studies. VeritasBible.com is a One Year Family Subscription for interactive Biblical curriculum. The subscription includes three different courses that cover Genesis to Joshua, The Gospels and Judge to Kings. Two more courses are being added soon, and those courses will cover Chronicles to Malachi and Job, and Acts to Revelation. Each course includes 32 major Biblical events and helps makes learning about the Bible fun using music, art, and geography. This helps with memory of important Biblical dates and characters, places reading and vocabulary. There are projects, worksheets, tests and activities that are also included so it makes for easy preparation for homeschool parents.
Each course starts out with fun characters who introduce the new lesson, and offer a review of the previous lesson or lessons. There is also matching activities and chronological quizzes that help to see if your child is understanding what they are learning. For example, my sons had to put the days of Creation in order and also the first six books of the Bible. Another activity included pictures of events going on, and they had to match the event to the sentence that described it. They even had an activity using timelines. I enjoyed that there was positive affirmation when answering correctly, and a kind "Try Again" to these activity questions. There are also fun songs that describe events and characters, and put the words on the screen that they are talking about. This helped my sons greatly know the spelling of the names of the characters and events in the Bible. There was also art shared and a short description given of the artwork and artist, so this would be wonderful for classical education homeschool studies.
VeritasBible.com almost plays like a video game where each lesson is one spot on a map. After completing each lesson, the child is able to go to the next spot on the map. To complete a lesson, there is a graded quiz that is just a few short questions where the child has to select the correct answer. My sons loved that by completing the lessons, they were able to move forward to the next spot. My youngest son was so excited that he couldn't wait to get the correct answer so that they could move onto the next level. Each lesson also has new and exciting activities, so it keeps the child's attention and wants them to do more lessons to see what activities might be next. Each lesson took them about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. It also remembers where your child left off so whenever they click out of their lesson, it will remember the exact spot so they can continue on with their lesson.
My sons both started out on the Genesis to Joshua course. They each got their own profile where they could make their own avatar. Even though they do very well working together, they each enjoyed having their own personal profile. This was beneficial for having them each work at their own pace. My favorite part of my sons using VeritasBible.com was the program asking my sons to open up their Bibles. My sons eagerly went and grabbed their Bibles to help them get the correct answers that they were asked. It is was so much fun getting to watch them learn and see the light bulb go off! My oldest son, exclaimed at one point, "Mom, did you know Moses helped to write the Bible?"
This program is excellent for family studies of the Bible. My sons are both beginner to intermediate readers, so they did need my help reading some of the questions even with the audio prompt reading the questions to them first. It also prompted Bible questions from my sons, even after being off the program. I thought this was amazing that the program had them questioning things and wanting to know more! I think this would be a perfect program for anyone who teaches Bible, whether at a private school or homeschool. It does make learning the Bible so much fun for kids, and I would highly recommend it!
