Homeschool Week 6

Hey all!  I am busy playing catch up this week so this is last week's lessons and adventures.  Life decided to throw us a few curveballs this week, but my faith rests on the Lord and I am thankful for everything that has happened.  There have been situations that have meant to bring out the worst in some people, but it has brought about good results.  Reminds me of Romans 8:28, which is:
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Have faith in the Lord.  This has been a week where many things did not make sense, and my sister said it best by saying, "Then stop trying to make sense of it all."  I hope you all have not had such a crazy week, but if you have I hope this helps to bring you some peace.  Thanks for stopping by!

The boys being silly at the library!
Tuesday - We read the first lesson in Chapter 5 of Believe Storybook, about Abraham and Sarah receiving new names because Abraham was faithful, and God was pleased.
Thursday - The boys and I read the second lesson in Believe Storybook about Zacchaeus and how Jesus wanted to go to his house.  Zacchaeus was so excited that Jesus wanted to come to his house, that he turned from his sin because Jesus wanted him.  What a powerful message this is!

Friday - We read some scripture in God's Big World Kids MagazineThere is a giveaway going on at the blog right now to win a copy of your choice of magazine plus other goodies in a $100 prize pack! Click here or on the picture below to enter the giveaway and also download a free copy!:

Tuesday - B had to connect the dots from 1-50 on ABCmouse.
Thursday - Today, B and I did Lesson 2 in Horizons Math on ordinal and cardinal numbers.  I had him remember that ordinal almost sounds like order, so that is what order things go in like first or second.  Cardinal or natural numbers was easy because he remembered a cardinal is a bird in nature, and it is just numbers like 1,2,3.
Social Studies:
Monday - We learned about Spanish Heritage Month at the library today.  The boys got to sample Spanish food and listen to Spanish music.
Tuesday - B and G did Lesson 14 in ABCmouse on different places to visit on a road trip such as Washington Monument, Statue of Liberty, Gateway Arch, and Sequoia National Park.  He also learned that giant holes are called canyons.
Friday - The boys and I learned many current facts from God's Big World Kids Magazine.  We read the September/October 2015 issue and learned that a woman will be on the $10 bill soon, and a candidate is Harriet Tubman.  Money changes from time to time to avoid fraudulent bills being printed.  They also had fun learning about pilots.
Tuesday - Lesson 14 in ABCmouse also covered learning about moose, beavers, raccoons, otters, snowshoe hares and northern pikes.
Friday - We learned about a flamingo with a carbon leg in God's Big World Kids Magazine.  The boys thought this was cool because I called it an Iron Man leg! They also learned about spacecrafts, cicadas, redwood trees and how to tell the age of a tree, and apparently sea lions don't like beach balls.
Monday  - The librarian read Waiting on the Biblioburro by: Monica Brown, and I read Battle with Doc Ock by: Lucy Rosen to the boys when we got home.
Tuesday - B did Lesson 15 in ABCmouse called Welcome to Grammar Kingdom.  He learned must as a sight word, and that a verb is what something does and a noun is what something is.  He had to finish sentences with the correct noun or verb, and also learned how to spell queen and quail.
Wednesday - The librarian read some books by one of our favorite authors, Doreen Cronin.  Some of the books were Dooby Dooby Moo, Click Clack Peep, Wiggle and the watched the video based off her book Click Clack Moo.  We also did the finger play of Two Little Blackbirds.
Thursday - I read Town Mouse and Country Mouse by: Jan Brett to the boys today, and they giggled as they learned about a "cat with wings" and an "owl with teeth!" They then had to remember the story sequence and put some pictures back in order to make the story make sense.
Friday - B read The Gruffalo's Child by: Julia Donaldson to G today.  He memorized but he actually took the time to read every single word of it today and look to make sure he knew the word.  It is so awesome to see how much he loves books, and how much his brother loves him reading to him now!
Tuesday - B wrote out the words queen and quail.
Thursday - B wrote out the words first through tenth.
Monday - The boys listened to Spanish music at the library today and also made a toilet paper roll craft of Quetzal, and drew pictures.
Tuesday - The boys played football outside with their friends.
Wednesday - They had a playdate with their cousins today, ad got a chance to play outside on the playground.
Thursday - They had fun building with Lego today.
Friday - Today, they learned about an interesting instrument called a harpsichord in  God's Big World Kids Magazine and also played with a magic kit, and learned some optical illusion tricks.
That's our week! Thanks for stopping by. I am going to have this last week of lessons posted soon :)

  1. Oh, we'd be interested in that flamingo article! Two of my girls wear prosthetic legs. Aside from Winter the dolphin, there aren't many animals with prosthetics that we know about.

    1. Hi, Shecki! My sons loved the flamingo article. Don't forget to download the free copy above. Winter is a very inspiring story, as well as are the children who have prosthetics. Blessings to you and your girls, and thank you for commenting :)
