Learning About Frogs (Homeschool Week 30)

It has been a busy few days for us this week as most of our friends and family in the area have been on Spring break.  I'm a little late so this article covers last week's lessons from March 23-27, 2015 and I will have this week's lessons up soon.  Hope you all are doing well and hope you and your family have a Happy Easter! He is Risen!

Getting ready for Easter with Resurrection Eggs.
Bible and Reading:
Tuesday - B did Lesson 75 in "100 Easy Lessons," and we all read "Queen Esther Helps God's People" and "Larry Makes a Choice."

Wednesday - We read "My Colors/Mis Colores" and "Learn with Me ABC" and learned some item names, colors, shapes, and food names in Spanish.

Thursday - B did Lesson 76 in "100 Easy Lessons" and G finished his ABCmouse plan for the year!  He is now working on Pre-k levels on ABCmouse!

Friday - Today, the boys and I read "Bob and Larry's Creation Vacation."

Art, Music and Physical Education:
Monday - We sang the songs "Five Speckled Frogs" and "Froggy, Froggy" to the rhythm of "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear."

Wednesday - The boys pretended to be geese traveling south from the Wild Animal Baby magazine November 2012 edition.  They honked and squawked all around the family room!

Friday - We went to the water spout park today with their aunt and cousin and splashed around!  Then we went for a walk in the beautiful botanical gardens adjacent to the park.

Motor and Social Skills, and Critical Thinking:
Monday - The boys had a cut and paste activity for math, and they had to find and circle items in a picture from the March 2010 edition of Clifford magazine.  They also had to match the names to the appropriate frog body parts in the Pre-k May/June 2009 edition of Weekly Reader.

Tuesday - We used the Clifford magazine idea of making frog feet out of putting plastic bags over our hands and using tape to secure it and pretended to have webbed feet in the sink! The boys had a blast with this!

Wednesday - They played an I Spy game today from the Wild Animal Baby magazine.

Thursday - We went with our church today to help feed the homeless at a ministry.

Friday - The boys made some new friends today at the park while splashing and running around with their cousin.

Monday - B wrote many words today: lily pad, turtle, duckling, dragonfly, fish, frog, raccoon, feather, nest, eye, back, leg, and toe.

Tuesday - Today B wrote w, y, other, made and they.

Thursday - B wrote the, that, came, when, away, x, y, a and u today.

Monday - The boys had to arrange their speckled frogs in order on the log in a worksheet today with frogs labeled from 1 to 5.

Tuesday - G did Lesson 74: More Number Fun in ABCmouse today.

Wednesday - The boys counted the number of prairie dogs found in the Wild Animal Baby magazine (8) and we learned our numbers (1-10) and shape names in Spanish.

Science and Social Studies:
Monday - The Clifford magazine was on Frogs so we learned that they live mostly in water, use tongues to catch flies, some have vocal sacs to make their loud ribbit sound.  We also learned the difference between frogs and toads in the Weekly Reader.

Tuesday - We watched Life Cycle of a Frog on YouTube and it was amazing!  G also worked on Lesson 73 - World Around Us: My Face in Spanish.

Wednesday - We compared a red beetle to other animals and learned about the tree frog in Wild Animal Baby magazine.

Thursday - We learned to be thankful and were humbled today.  Many days, we are stressed out or have things to complain about but not having food or a shelter to call home makes all of those worries go away.  We were blessed to be able to serve food to these people and it was an awesome experience.  We watched two men switch different food items and share between their two meals.  One man had a fast food bag and when he opened it, it was filled with condiments that he shared with all the people sitting at his table.  Another man come up to us all and shared his blessing over us and for how thankful he was.  We were all so astonished that words did not even come out. We're hoping to make this a monthly visit for our church.

That's our week!  Thanks for stopping by and hope you all have a relaxing and Happy Easter!
