Week 15: Thanksgiving Reading and Movies

We had an informal week of learning this week as we relaxed and enjoyed time with family.  I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful and thanks for joining us!

We Give Books  is an awesome website that lets you read free books online.  They are also doing a donation to children in need for every book that is read.  Click here to find out more!  These are some of the books we were able to read free: "Max Cleans Up" by: Rosemary Wells and "Goodnight Good" by: Michael Rex, but there are many more to choose from!

If you would like to follow along with what curriculum we are using, please click here.

Bible and Reading:
Monday - Today, we read "The Popcorn Book," "Panda Bear Panda Bear What Do You See?," "Polar Bear Polar Bear What Do You Hear?," "Max Cleans Up," and "Goodnight Goon."  The boys and I also read about "Jonah and the Big Fish" in "Jesus Calling," and hearing the story made my youngest apologize for smashing cheese into the couch earlier that morning!

Tuesday - The boys had a blast watching some of the Scholastic and Disney movies we borrowed from the Library:

The boys also did the latest version of the free app Bible for Kids by YouVersion.  They learned about Joshua and Jericho.

Wednesday - We read "Amelia Bedelia Talks Turkey" today.  I loved reading Amelia Bedelia books when I was little and it was so much fun to share this with the boys.

Friday - B reviewed letters U-Z on ABCmouse today and then we all read "The Highway Rat" and "Room on the Broom."  We also watched The LoraxThe Wizard of Oz and Home Alone.  It was just a nice day to relax and snuggle today!

Art, Music and Physical Education:
Monday - The boys colored their map of Greece today.

I found this amazing free printable pack for 'The Gruffalo" by Learning Parade on TeachersPayTeachers so the boys loved this and had lots of fun in the morning coloring!

Tuesday - My youngest is really starting to enjoy coloring and drawing.  We went to McDonald's today and they had a Spiderman coloring book in his Happy Meal and he colored in that for at least an hour!

Wednesday - We made a turkey craft today out of an empty tissue box, colored Popsicle sticks, and construction paper.  I asked my oldest what we would make the turkey's head out of and he looked confused and said, "Momma, we don't eat turkeys with their heads!"  I stand corrected!  My youngest colored yet another picture without being asked!

Thursday - It was a beautiful Thanksgiving day and we had fun playing baseball and running outside with Grandma and Grandpa.

Motor and Social Skills, and Critical Thinking:
Monday - The boys cut and pasted some pictures out of a magazine that were products made out of corn for our Social Studies lesson.

Tuesday - We spent some time with Grandma and Grandpa today and the boys got a chance to build with some Lincoln Logs.  They also had to answer some reading comprehension questions from the Bible app.

Wednesday - B set up his own Library in the family room today and we had some pretend play fun checking out books and having the boys "read" to me!

A happy Super Why customer reading from the library his brother set up!

Thursday - The boys were so excited to see their cousins on Thanksgiving and they had fun playing an I Spy Memory game.

Friday - The boys did some memory match and puzzle games on ABCmouse today.

Thursday - The boys and I learned how to make pumpkin pies with Grandma today.  They love helping in the kitchen and learning how to measure and what ingredients everything needs!

Friday - G learned about diamonds and B had a numbers 1-10 review on ABCmouse.

Science and Social Studies:
Monday - We found Greece on the map and compared it in location to the other countries we have learned about so far this year.  We also read "The Story of Corn" from a Elmer's Teachers Club printable from last year.  This was also where we found the worksheet for cutting out the picture of the corn products.

Wednesday - We learned about Squanto, Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving at Plymouth Rock in 1620.
