Week 13: Germany and Playgrounds (Homeschool Kindergarten and Preschool Learning)

Hello and hope you are all staying warm and enjoying the season.  It finally got cooler where I live so we had a fun week of reading books and exploring different parks in our area.  We are also trying to get the boys caught up on their ABCmouse lessons by the end of the year.  What kind of fun things are in your area that you enjoy doing with your children?

Bible and Reading:
Monday - We read "Simple John" in "The Lion Storyteller Bedtime Book," and "My Heart is Like a Zoo" today.  B did some lessons in ABCmouse on letters Q and R.

Tuesday - The boys and I went over letter f today and came up with some words that start with f like fire, fox, frog, forest, for and four.  B did Lesson 59 in "100 Easy Lessons" and was introduced to the following new words to read: fishing, tub, but, bite, sleep, like, more, ten, and let's.  We also read "Twas' the Night Before Zoo Day" today.

Wednesday - B wrapped up letters Q and R on ABCmouse today and G learned about the color orange, colors, fruits, and vegetables.  They also had some fun library fun today and got to play on the computers.

We were blessed to be able to get a second computer so this "Command Central" where the boys can be on ABCmouse at one time, and Mommy and Daddy don't have to fight over the computer anymore :)

Thursday - B started lessons on S and T on ABCmouse and G learned about letter V.  We read "Llama Llama Nighty Night."

Friday - B got to do reading lesson 60 with Daddy. (only 40 lessons left to go!) He learned how to read y, k, walk, talk, stop, rub, five, end, his, and sitting.  We also read the following books: "The Snail and the Whale," "A Gold Star for Zog," "Tabby McTat, The Musical Cat," and "Click, Clack, Boo!: A Tricky Treat."

Art, Music, and Physical Education:
Tuesday - We went for a walk and to the playground in our neighborhood today.  The boys also colored the map and flag of Germany and we learned the song, "Give Me Oil in My Lamp."

Wednesday - We discovered a Pirate Ship Playground not too far from where we live so the boys and I were there for over an hour playing, swinging and running!  The boys got to play Awanas sports tonight and my youngest was tickled because the younger kids don't usually get to the big kid sports!

Thursday - Yet another playground closer to my sister's house and more sliding, climbing and running around!  We also had some silly fun singing and dancing to Christmas carols.  The cooler weather makes it feel like it is actually November and almost holiday time!

Friday - Our last playground of the week was at Grandpa and Grandma's house.  The boys got a chance to run, swing, and play baseball.

Motor and Social Skills, and Critical Thinking:
Monday - Today, we played Don't Break the Ice, which my youngest is still trying to figure out.  He likes to bang all the ice cubes down and the polar bear!  G also played a "Bubble Guppies" game on Nickjr.com that taught him how to maneuver going right, left, up and down.

Tuesday - Letter f was cut and pasted into our Alphabet Book today.  B had to answer reading comprehension questions after his lesson.

Wednesday - We had Awanas tonight and the boys had a chance to play with other kids at the playground today.

Thursday - The boys and I met up with my sister and niece today at the playground and they all got a chance to play with other children at the park.  Both boys did puzzles on ABCmouse today.

Friday - There were more puzzle fun on ABCmouse today and they wrapped up their night with Grandpa and their cousins for a playdate.  B had to answer reading comprehension questions after his lesson.

Monday - B traced letters Q and R on ABCmouse.

Tuesday - B wrote letters g and b for his reading lesson.

Thursday - B traced letters S and T on ABCmouse.

Friday - B wrote letters G,g and V,v for reading lesson and then decided to write letters A to Z unprompted by Mommy and Daddy.  I'm glad he is starting to enjoy writing!

Monday - B finished Lesson 21 on ABCmouse on learning Numbers 6-10. (24% complete as of today)

Thursday - B learned about more and less in ABCmouse today.

Friday - We counted 1-5 while reading the book, "A Gold Star for Zog."

Science and Social Studies:
Monday - We inadvertently had a Science lesson during breakfast when B asked why his ice melts.  We talked about ice is water frozen and is called a solid and when it gets warm, it melts into water. (liquid state)  We also explained how it water can turn into a vapor when it gets to the point of boiling and steams, like when Mommy makes pasta.

Tuesday - The boys and I went over fire safety rules today and they learned how to "Stop, Drop and Roll."  I showed the boys Germany on the map in location to U.S., Africa and their new favorite, Australia.

Thursday - Both the boys learned lessons on "The World Around Us" in ABCmouse today.

Well, that's our week.  Many things accomplished but I think we will be taking a break during the month of December so we are playing catch up to get there to relax and enjoy the festivities.  Learning never stops I've learned.  Do you take a break for the holidays?
