Week #10: Introduction to Ten Frame (Homeschool Kindergarten and Preschool Learning)

Hello everyone and thanks for joining us for week 10!  We took Thursday off of homeschool completely but we made that day up on Saturday.  I love the flexibility of homeschooling!  Friday the boys were starting to not feel well so we decided to give them a break and let them rest so they could feel better.

We had many family situations hit our family this week, but we remember that God is good.  My mother-in-law lost her father to cancer this week but he is now with our Lord and Savior, and is no longer suffering.  Our sweet kitty had a sleepover visit at the vet a few days this week as she was spayed but she is now home and resting with us.  My brother and his family welcomed a new baby into the world this week and I can't wait to go visit with them now and meet my nephew!

We were also blessed to get a second vehicle this week.  It's been a long journey (3 1/2 years) with no second car but we are incredibly humbled and glory be to God who has made this all possible!  Whatever you may be going through this week, I pray for you and your family and remember to turn it all over to the Lord.

Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”  Luke 18:27.

Bible and Reading:
Tuesday - The boys did the Bible App on Moses and the Plagues.  B did Reading Lesson #57 out of "100 Easy Lessons" and was introduced to these new words and sounds:  there, sent, well, bit and chicks.  G learned about letter T on ABCmouse.

Wednesday - We reviewed last week's verses with the boys for Awanas and they did a great job on remembering the verses!  They also learned about "A Test in the Desert" on the Bible App where Satan tries to deceive Jesus in the desert.

The boys got to enjoy Library Time this week again and we learned about the letters U and V.  The librarian read, "Froggy Gets Dressed," "Creepy Carrots," and "Asiago."  They also got to watch a video from Walt Disney on "The Ugly Duckling."

Saturday - Today, we read, "The Gruffalo's Child and G continued to work on letter T from ABCmouse.  While at the Library on Wednesday, we discovered they have a whole area of children's DVDs so we borrowed 4 Scholastic videos!  These videos are amazing because they have special features where you may be able to find out more about the author, read alongs, and even some of them are available in Spanish!  The boys enjoyed watching some of their favorite books come to life!  It also introduces us to new books that become family favorites and classics!

Art, Music and Physical Education:
Monday - B drew and colored a Gruffalo, and a quail by following the art directions.  Both the boys colored the map and flag of Spain, and then we went for a walk and to the playground.

Wednesday - We took a walk in the park after library time, and we saw a 10 foot alligator sitting in someone's backyard!  The boys danced and wiggled to Sally the Swinging Snake.  B also got to play sports at Awanas.

Right across the water on the opposite end was the alligator!

Motor and Social Skills, and Critical Thinking:
Monday - The boys and I worked on a 48 piece puzzle together.

Tuesday - Both of the boys had to answer reading comprehension questions from the Bible App and B had to answer reading comprehension questions from his reading lesson.

Wednesday - The boy got to interact with other children at the library today and also had Awanas.  They also both had to answer reading comprehension questions from Bible App.

Monday - B wrote quail, 4, 9, 6, and 8.  G wrote the letter q!

Tuesday - B wrote letters p and b.

 100 Easy Lessons

Monday - We started using templates today from Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits on learning how to use the ten frame.  I wanted B to know how to do this in case he is ever tested on it because I know this is the new way they are trying to teach kids about math but he will be learning both ways!  We worked today on the equations sheet and we used some Legos to help make it fun!

Tuesday - G learned about the number 6 on ABCmouse and B did the Making 10 worksheet, and again we used Legos!

Wednesday - The boys learned about the finger play Five Little Pumpkins.

Saturday - We watched the video from the book One Was Johnny.  It's an awesome counting book because it counts to ten forward and then you get to count backward from 10 to 1.  G started learning about the number 7 on ABCmouse.

Science and Social Studies:
Monday - The boys learned where Spain is in location to Africa and America.  I explained to them that Spain is next to Portugal, which is where Gamma (my Mom) is from.  They thought that was pretty cool!

Wednesday - They boys were amazed to see an alligator in someone's backyard!  There's a park close to the library and there are many bodies of water near where we live so we have to teach them the dangers of being near and not swimming in them because of alligators.

Saturday - This week, we have seen a lot of wildlife near where we live!  Not only an alligator, but we have seen eagles, deer, a coyote and a hog.

While the boys were not feeling well today, we were all just snuggling in the family room together and my husband called me over to the patio slider.  There was a boy who shot a flare gun in the empty field behind where we are renting and it caught fire!  He was a young boy, maybe 11-13 years old but it scared him and he ran off.  We had to call the non-emergency number because it would have set the whole field on fire.  The lesson learned here for the boys is not to play with guns.  Luckily, they were able to subdue the fire before it got bad.  My husband was a hero in this case because he not only called but also went to try to stuff out the fire before the police and fire fighters showed up.

So, we had a lot of adventure this week for sure!  I pray you and your families are well!  Thanks for joining our adventures again this week and we will see you next week :)
