Week #8: Two Animal Inspired Field Trips

Do you ever find yourself playing catch up?  Well, that is me this week.  I realized after trying to take a week off of homeschool because of my sister's wedding and family coming into town, how much we actually did that week!  So, we technically had one day off that whole week!  We had a lot of fun so I wanted to share with you all some of what we did!

Two Animal Inspired Field Trips

Bible and Reading:
Monday - I had originally planned to take the week off so we just had a reading day today with some of family's favorite books: "Goodnight, Little Pumpkin," "Katy No-Pocket," "Ask Mr. Bear, and "Where the Wild Things Are."  We also were introduced to a new favorite: "A Pocket for Corduroy" and we got to listen to the audio on a CD.  B also covered Reading Mm and Nn in ABCmouse.

Wednesday - G learned Psalm 139:14 for Awanas homework and we read about how God is our Creator.  B learned the K in Sparks is for Keep and James 2:10.  They also got to learn about Joshua from watching "Josh and the Big Wall" from Veggie Tales.

Thursday - While at the zoo, the boys worked on their phonics of learning what letter each animal started with.

Art, Music and Physical Education:
Monday - The boys and I enjoyed a nice, cool fall day outside walking and playing on the playground.

Tuesday - We took a field trip to Sanaa at Disney's Animal Kingdom Resort and did a lot of walking!  We also went exploring in Downtown Disney.  Check out our fun day here.

 Sanaa

Wednesday - While watching the Veggie Tales movie, we learned this hilarious song called, "The Song of the Cebu."  I highly recommend both this movie and the song!

Thursday - My dad flew into town so we took him to the zoo closest to our house.  It was so much fun getting to spend time with my dad, the boys and my husband,

Motor and Social Skills/Critical Thinking:
Monday - The boys have memorized "Katy No-Pocket" and "Ask Mr. Bear" from us reading the books so much, so they decided they wanted to act each part out!  We had a fun afternoon of taking turns making silly animal noises!  I've also noticed they both have been asking me how to spell different things so good sense of G learning his alphabet and B learning his reading.

Tuesday - We got to try African and Indian inspired cuisine with the Tandoori Shrimp and Beef Curry, and the  boys actually liked it!  We also got to see candy apples being made to resemble the apple from "Snow White" at the Candy Cauldron store.

Wednesday - Grandma's house and Awanas night.

Thursday - The boys got to play with other kids at the zoo and splash around in the water in the kids area!

Math:
Monday - Both the boys learned about counting from 31 to 45 in ABCmouse.

Thursday - We played the frog counting game at the zoo again today.  That is their favorite!  As soon as we see them, both of the boys start trying to find all 13 frogs and then we see how many of each color of frog there are.

Science and Social Studies:
Tuesday - We got to see cattle, zebras, giraffes, ostriches, and birds while dining at the resort.  It was an amazing experience!

Thursday - We all took a safari trip to discover the animals of Africa.  We saw elephants, giraffes, hippos, the cheetah, and zebras.  We also discovered some animals from Asia including the sloth bear who likes to dance!  He swings his body from side to side and it literally looks like he is dancing!  We also saw leopards, manatees, black bears, alligators, otters, turtles, fish, a wolf, flamingos, turkeys and penguins!

It's wonderful getting to discover what region the animals are from, what they like to eat and some of their behaviors and characteristics.

Turtles

The majestic eagle.

My dad and the boys watching the manatees underground!

They have the cutest faces!

The boys made an otter friend from and named him "Slider" from their favorite show, "Wild Kratts."

Alligators.

Black Bear.

Flamingos.

A wolf.

My dad and B petting and feeding the goats.

We got there just in time to see the penguins fed!  The zookeepers analyze each individual penguin and if they need any vitamins, supplements or medicine, they put the food into their fishy food and the penguins come back wanting more!

A beautiful deer.

Akapi.

The cheetah is fast but this is a great picture of him!  You hardly ever get a chance to see him so it was crazy to see him this close!

Zebra

My dad looking at the white rhino!

Elephants.

The tiger.

The "dancing" sloth bear!

Black bear.

Here is a picture from my sister's wedding!

What fun activities do you and your family enjoy doing together?

Blessings,
Kelly
